Treatment of skin fungal infections (tinea pedis, tinea corporis, etc.) and onychomycosis
This medication is used for the treatment of dermatophytic infections and onychomycosis caused by dermatophytes such as tinea pedis, tinea corporis, and tinea cruris in adults. In children, it is used for treating tinea capitis. In other words, it is effective in improving various skin fungal infections and onychomycosis.
As terbinafine, administer 125 mg once, twice daily, or 250 mg once daily. The treatment period varies according to the disease: 1) Dermatophytic infections Tinea pedis (interdigital, plantar/moccasin type): 2-6 weeks. Tinea corporis: 2-4 weeks. Tinea cruris: 2-4 weeks. 2) Onychomycosis Typically administered for 6 weeks to 3 months. In cases infection involves the toenails or relatively smaller toes, or if the patient is young, the treatment period can be shortened to less than 3 months. Typically, the treatment duration for toenail infections is sufficient at 3 months, but for some patients, it may take 6 months or more. For patients with slow nail growth, the treatment duration may be prolonged.
Administer to children aged over 2 years. Tinea capitis: 4 weeks. 1) Weight under 20 kg (under 5 years): 62.5 mg once daily. Due to insufficient administration experience, the benefits and risks of treatment must be considered.
This medication is not recommended for patients with chronic liver disease or active liver disease. Before using this medication, liver health status should be checked, and liver function tests (AST/ALT) should be performed regularly before administration and 4-6 weeks after treatment. If liver function test values increase, this medication should be discontinued immediately. If any symptoms such as persistent nausea, appetite loss, fatigue, vomiting, pain in the upper right abdomen, jaundice, dark urine, or loose stools appear for no apparent reason during treatment with this medication, you should inform your doctor immediately, and stop administration if these symptoms occur and undergo liver function tests. Very rarely, liver failure may occur, so if liver damage is suspected, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and liver function should be closely monitored. This medication should not be used by individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients, chronic liver disease, blood disorders, severe renal failure, nursing mothers, or infants under 2 years old. Since it contains lactose, patients with galactose intolerance, severe lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Caution is advised in patients with severely impaired renal function, elderly patients, and children weighing less than 20 kg. If severe skin rashes or allergic reactions occur, discontinue use immediately. This medication should only be used for fungal infections that are difficult to treat topically, and activities such as driving or operating machinery should be avoided if symptoms like dizziness occur. There may be interactions with other medications, especially those metabolized in the liver or oral contraceptives, so it is important to consult a doctor or pharmacist in such cases. During pregnancy, safety is not established, and it should only be used when necessary, and nursing should be discontinued if breast-feeding. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness may occur, and immediate medical attention is needed. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, not transferred to other containers, and stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory anomalies with cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, urine abnormalities.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air and moisture entry, at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way helps maintain the medication's effectiveness and prevent deterioration.
