This medication is used when blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled with monotherapy. In other words, it helps to effectively lower blood pressure when taken with other medications, thereby assisting in the management of hypertension. Proper control of hypertension reduces the risk of complications such as heart disease or stroke.

How to take

Adult dose

The usual dosage of this medication is one tablet of losartan potassium 50 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Doses exceeding losartan potassium 100 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day are not advisable. - When blood pressure is not controlled with monotherapy of losartan or hydrochlorothiazide, treatment should begin with losartan potassium 50 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily.

Child dose

Precautions

This medication may pose serious risks to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Using this medication during pregnancy may inhibit fetal lung development or cause skeletal deformities, and may result in serious side effects such as hypotension and kidney failure in the newborn. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain diseases, such as those with anuria, liver or renal impairment, hyperuricemia, or pregnant women. Additionally, patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or an allergy to sulfonamide drugs should also avoid its use. Patients with very low blood pressure, impaired kidney function, liver disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, etc., require special caution when using this medication. As this drug can affect serum electrolyte levels, regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor electrolyte status, and hypokalemia or hyperkalemia may occur. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, skin sensitivity to sunlight may increase, so exposure to sunlight should be limited and skin protection should be taken seriously. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, cough, rash, and abdominal pain may occur; if these symptoms persist, consultation with a physician is advised. Particularly in the elderly and patients with decreased renal function, adverse reactions may occur more frequently, thus caution is required. This drug may have interactions with other medications, so consult healthcare professionals if taking potassium supplements or potassium-containing drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, etc. Be cautious of potential dizziness or drowsiness while driving or operating machinery. There is limited experience with the use of this medication in children, and it should not be administered to pediatric and adolescent patients.
