Relief of moderate to severe acute and chronic pain
This medication is used to relieve moderate to severe acute and chronic pain.
Children aged 12 and older and adults: Dosage should be adjusted according to the patient's pain level and treatment response. A starting dose of 4 tablets is recommended, and thereafter, intervals of at least 6 hours should be maintained, not exceeding 16 tablets per day. The lowest effective dose should be administered for the shortest period possible. This medication should not be taken for extended periods unnecessarily, and if long-term use is warranted due to the nature and severity of the disease, regular monitoring should be conducted to verify the continued use of this medication. Elderly Administer the usual adult dose. However, for those aged 75 and older, the elimination half-life of tramadol increases by 17%, so dosing should occur with an interval of at least 6 hours. Renal impairment For patients with moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance 10-30 ml/min), extend the dosing interval to 12 hours. In severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min), use is not recommended. Tramadol is eliminated very slowly during hemodialysis and filtration; therefore, it is not necessary to re-administer this medication post-dialysis to maintain analgesic effect. Hepatic impairment For patients with moderate hepatic impairment, it should be carefully considered to extend the dosing interval. Use should not be given to patients with severe hepatic impairment.
This medication may burden the liver; therefore, individuals who regularly consume more than three glasses of alcohol per day must consult a physician or pharmacist before taking it. There is a risk of seizures while taking this medication, so patients with a history of seizures or risk factors should be cautious, as the risk may increase when taken with certain specific medications. Patients with severe asthma who experience breathing difficulties should use this medication under monitoring in a properly equipped setting. Taking this medication with alcohol or central nervous system depressants (e.g., sleeping pills, sedatives) can cause severe drowsiness, respiratory depression, or coma, so combination should be avoided. Patients with brain injury or high intracranial pressure should be cautious, as respiratory depression from this medication can worsen symptoms. This medication may cause physical and psychological dependence; hence, dosage and duration should be adjusted under a physician's guidance when used for extended periods. Patients with poor liver function must consult a physician before taking this medication, and caution should be taken not to use it with other acetaminophen-containing products due to the risk of liver damage. Patients who may experience excessive effects of this medication due to certain genetic traits should consult a physician regarding dosage adjustment or alternative medications. This medication should not be administered to children under 12 years or adolescents under 18 years who have undergone tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, and adolescents aged 12 to 18 should avoid use if there are specific risk factors. Patients with sleep apnea or hypoxia should continuously monitor for symptom changes after taking this medication, as their conditions may worsen. Drowsiness or dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is needed when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Do not exceed the recommended dosage, avoid using it with other pain relievers, and consult a physician to gradually reduce the dosage if discontinuation is needed to prevent withdrawal symptoms. If any adverse reactions are suspected while taking this medication, notify healthcare personnel immediately, especially for symptoms like difficulty breathing, severe rash, or seizures, as prompt treatment is necessary.
