Relief of symptoms such as allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis as well as chronic idiopathic urticaria, and itching associated with dermatitis and eczema.
Adults and children over 6 years: Take 1 tablet (Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 5mg) orally once daily, regardless of meals. Dosage should be adjusted according to renal function in patients with renal impairment. Normal renal function (≥ 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily. Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily. Moderate renal impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 1 tablet twice daily.
Children over 6 years: Take 1 tablet (Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 5mg) orally once daily, regardless of meals.
This medication should not be used by anyone with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to its components or to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It is not safe to administer to patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing hemodialysis. It should not be given to infants under 1 year of age, and liquid formulation is preferred over tablets for children under 6 years of age. Since the tablet contains lactose, those with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or disorders of glucose-galactose absorption should not take it. Patients with impaired renal or liver function and the elderly should use this medication with caution as blood concentrations may increase. This medication can cause drowsiness, headache, fatigue, dizziness, and other central nervous system symptoms. Gastrointestinal effects may include dry mouth, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, with rare occurrences of vomiting or gastrointestinal disturbances. Cardiac symptoms such as tachycardia or arrhythmia, elevated blood pressure, and palpitations have been reported infrequently. Blood disorders may manifest as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia. Severe allergic reactions, including hypersensitivity, photosensitivity, rash, angioedema, and anaphylaxis, may occur, requiring caution. Ocular effects such as blurred vision and conjunctival hyperemia may also occur infrequently. Changes in liver and kidney function test results have also been reported. Drowsiness or feelings of fatigue may occur after taking this medication, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Taking it with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may increase drowsiness or decrease concentration, so it should be avoided. Those at risk for urinary retention should exercise more caution with this medication, as should patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures. It is advisable to avoid concomitant use with alcohol as this may enhance central nervous system depressant effects. Taking it with food may not reduce the amount absorbed but may slow the rate of absorption. Women who are pregnant should use this medication cautiously, and breastfeeding mothers should be careful as adverse reactions may occur in the baby. Due to insufficient experience, it is not safe to administer this medication to infants under 1 year, and the elderly should start at a lower dose and be carefully monitored due to potential increased drug levels from reduced kidney function. If planning to undergo allergy testing (skin tests), it is advisable to discontinue this medication 3-5 days prior to the test. In the case of overdose, adults may experience increased drowsiness, while children may first show signs of restlessness and agitation. This medication has no antidote, so treatment to alleviate symptoms and, if necessary, gastric lavage may be performed. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so consult healthcare professionals in case of overdose.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in an airtight container that blocks light and kept at a temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage can maintain the medication's efficacy and prevent deterioration.
