This medication is used to alleviate symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis or persistent perennial allergic rhinitis. It can also improve symptoms caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria. It aids in relieving symptoms when used together with hydrocortisone ointment for dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching. It is effectively used to alleviate various allergy and skin-related symptoms.
Adults: Administer 1 tablet (5mg of Levocetirizine Hydrochloride) once daily, regardless of meals. Adjust dose as appropriate based on age and symptoms. Patients with renal impairment should adjust the dose according to kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)). - Normal kidney function (≥ 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Moderate renal impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 1 tablet every other day - Severe renal impairment (15 -< 30): Not requiring dialysis. 1 tablet every three days - End-stage renal disease (< 15): Requires dialysis. Contraindicated.
Children over 6 years: Administer 1 tablet (5mg of Levocetirizine Hydrochloride) once daily, regardless of meals, the same as adults.
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to specific components or have had hypersensitivity to hydroxysine or piperazine derivatives in the past. It should not be administered to patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing hemodialysis. It should not be used in infants under 1 year of age, and in children under 6 years of age, it should be administered in liquid form rather than tablet form. This medication contains lactose, so patients with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it due to genetic issues. Patients with impaired renal or liver function, as well as the elderly, should use caution as the drug's blood concentration might increase. Taking this medication can cause drowsiness, headache, dizziness, fatigue, and other neurological symptoms, so caution should be exercised during activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. Gastrointestinal side effects like dry mouth, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea can also occur. Rarely, side effects such as heart rhythm disturbances, changes in blood cell counts, skin rashes, itching, and blurred vision may occur. While taking this medication, avoid concurrent use with alcohol or central nervous system depressants as these can exacerbate drowsiness or reduced concentration. Patients at risk of urinary retention, for instance those with spinal disorders or benign prostatic hyperplasia, should be particularly cautious. Patients with epilepsy or a risk of seizures may experience worsening symptoms when taking this medication, so it should be administered with care. Pregnant women should use it cautiously as there is limited data available, but no clear risks to the fetus have been reported. Breastfeeding women should be cautious as this medication may be secreted in breast milk, which could lead to adverse reactions in the infant. This medication is primarily excreted via the kidneys; therefore, elderly patients with reduced kidney function should start on a low dose and be monitored. It is recommended to discontinue this medication 3-5 days prior to allergy testing, as it may affect the test results. In cases of overdose, adults may experience drowsiness, while children may initially show agitation and anxiety. There is no specific antidote; symptomatic treatment should be provided. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so caution is necessary in cases of overdose.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
