It is used for improvement of allergy and skin-related symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals allergic to its ingredients or to hydroxyzine, piperazine derivatives, or those who have previously experienced such reactions. It should not be administered to patients with severely impaired renal function or those undergoing hemodialysis. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women, and breastfeeding women should not take this medication. It should not be given to infants under 1 year old, and children under 6 years should be administered in liquid form rather than tablets. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take it. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, and the elderly should use it with caution as the blood concentration of this medication may increase. This medication may cause central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, so one should be cautious when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Taking it with alcohol or other medications that affect the central nervous system may exacerbate drowsiness or decreased concentration, so it's best to avoid such combinations. Patients with urinary excretion issues or diseases like prostatic hyperplasia should be particularly careful when using this medication. As with other antihistamines, taking it with alcohol may increase the risk of side effects. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid taking this medication. For children under 12 years old, appropriate dosage adjustments are required, especially not using it for infants under 1 year old. Elderly patients are more likely to have impaired kidney function, possibly leading to higher blood concentrations, so treatment should start at a lower dose and closely monitor their condition. When performing skin response tests like allergy tests, it is advisable to discontinue this medication 3 to 5 days before the test. If taken in overdose, adults may experience increased drowsiness, while children may initially exhibit restlessness and anxiety before drowsiness sets in. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and symptomatic treatment should be provided, with measures like gastric lavage possibly required. This medication is not well removed by hemodialysis, so caution is necessary for patients on dialysis.
