Precautions

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various infectious diseases. However, this medication can cause serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture and peripheral neuropathy, thus it must be discontinued immediately if such symptoms occur. Particularly, it should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis as it may exacerbate symptoms. This medication should only be used cautiously for specific infections like acute bacterial rhinosinusitis, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media when no other treatments are available. Additionally, this medication may increase the risk of tendon rupture, especially in older adults, patients with renal impairment, and those taking corticosteroids. If pain or inflammation occurs, avoid exercising and immediately discontinue the medication. Patients with a history of seizures or convulsions, severe renal impairment, older adults, and those with diabetes require special caution when using this medication. It should also not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, or to children and teenagers in the growth phase. This medication can cause a range of side effects including severe allergic reactions, neuropsychiatric symptoms (anxiety, depression, hallucinations, etc.), cardiac irregularities, liver and kidney dysfunctions, blood disorders, gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rashes, and more, thus immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is required if any unusual symptoms appear. During treatment, avoid strong sunlight or artificial UV exposure, and be aware that dizziness or drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to consult with a physician or pharmacist, especially when taking antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anticoagulants, or diabetes medications. In case of overdose, symptoms affecting the central nervous system and cardiac irregularities may occur requiring immediate medical attention. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, thus caution is needed. For safe use of this medication, it should be taken according to healthcare provider's instructions, considering both therapeutic effects and risks of side effects.
