Improvement of allergy symptoms such as seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria.
This medication is used to alleviate allergy symptoms, such as those caused by seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. It also helps in the treatment of skin rashes and itching caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria. When treating dermatitis or eczema accompanied by itching, it can be used together with a topical hydrocortisone preparation to enhance its effectiveness. This medication primarily improves symptoms of allergic rhinitis and various skin conditions.
Adults: Take 1 tablet (5 mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride) orally once a day, regardless of meals. Dose adjustments should be made based on creatinine clearance (CLCR) in patients with renal impairment. - Mild (50 ≤ CLCR < 80): 1 tablet once a day - Moderate (30 ≤ CLCR < 50): 1 tablet every other day - Severe (10 ≤ CLCR < 30): 1 tablet every three days
Children aged 6 years and older: Take 1 tablet (5 mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride) orally once a day, regardless of meals. Adjust appropriately based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used by individuals who have had allergic reactions to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives, or those with a history of such reactions. Individuals with severely impaired kidney function or receiving hemodialysis, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. It should not be administered to infants under 1 year of age, and children under 6 years should take the liquid form instead of tablets. Furthermore, patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic lactose metabolism disorders should not take the tablet form of this medication. Caution is advised for patients with compromised kidney or liver function, as well as for the elderly, as this medication may increase blood concentration levels. Various side effects such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, nausea, and abdominal pain may occur, and in rare cases, cardiac arrhythmias or allergic reactions may also occur. Fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and otitis media are common side effects in children. Drowsiness or fatigue may result after taking this medication, so caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants can enhance drowsiness or decrease concentration. Patients with urinary retention issues should be cautious, as taking this medication may increase the risk of urinary retention. It is safest for pregnant or nursing women to avoid this medication, especially during breastfeeding, as the active ingredients may be passed into breast milk. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for children, especially those under 12 years old, and it must not be used in infants under 1 year. The elderly may need to start at a lower dose due to decreased kidney function, and their condition should be monitored. It is recommended to discontinue this medication before allergen testing, as it may affect test results. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or anxiety may occur; as there is no specific antidote, treatment should be based on symptoms. This medication is not eliminated through hemodialysis, so appropriate medical measures are important in case of overdose.

This medication is sensitive to light; therefore, it should be stored in a special container that prevents light exposure. Additionally, it should be stored at room temperature, between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius, away from excessively hot or cold environments to maintain its effectiveness.
