1. Adults 1) Prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by cancer chemotherapy: Administer palonosetron 0.25 mg as a single intravenous injection over at least 30 seconds, 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. 2) Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting: Administer 0.075 mg as a single intravenous injection over at least 10 seconds immediately before induction of anesthesia. No specific dose adjustment is necessary for elderly patients or patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Clinical data are not available for patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing dialysis.

This medication helps prevent acute and delayed nausea and vomiting occurring during initial and repeated treatments in adult patients receiving moderately to severely emetogenic chemotherapy. It is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may occur within 24 hours after surgery, and to treat nausea and vomiting that has already occurred post-surgery. In pediatric patients, it is used to prevent acute nausea and vomiting due to moderately to severely emetogenic chemotherapy. This drug effectively alleviates the discomfort associated with nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing chemotherapy and post-surgery.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to it or its components. Patients who have had allergic reactions to similar drugs should be cautious when taking this medication. This drug may slow intestinal motility, and patients with constipation or signs of bowel obstruction should be monitored carefully while using it. Patients taking other serotonin-related medications should be monitored closely for the serious side effect known as serotonin syndrome. This medication is used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy or surgery, and side effects such as headaches, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, and fatigue may occur. Patients with heart conditions should be cautious as abnormal heart rhythms or blood pressure changes may occur rarely. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur when driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established; it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and breastfeeding mothers should consult a healthcare professional since the drug may pass into breast milk. It can be used in children and elderly patients, but safety and efficacy have not been fully established in children, and while no special dosage adjustments are required for the elderly, their conditions should be carefully monitored. There is no specific antidote in case of overdose, so immediate contact with medical personnel is necessary for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored away from light and freezing and kept at room temperature, ensuring there is no discoloration or foreign matter before administration. The interaction potential with other medications is low, but caution is needed when using it with serotonergic drugs due to the risk of side effects.
