How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children over 12 years: Administer 500 to 1000 mg (potency) of amoxicillin and sulbactam per dose, three times daily orally.

Precautions

This medication is a penicillin-class antibiotic and may cause certain allergic reactions; therefore, it should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or other penicillin drugs. Additionally, patients allergic to cephalosporins should exercise caution, and it is advisable not to administer this medication to patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis due to an increased risk of rash. This medication contains lactose, so it should be avoided in patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases or a history of allergies and those with severe kidney impairment should use this medication cautiously, and particular care should be taken with elderly patients or those in poor general condition as they may exhibit a tendency to bleed. During treatment, gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and in severe cases, pseudomembranous colitis may develop, so if symptoms worsen, the medication should be discontinued immediately and the physician's instructions should be followed. Allergic reactions can manifest as serious symptoms such as hives, angioedema, and anaphylactic shock, so if these symptoms occur, administration of the medication should be stopped immediately and emergency care sought. Since this medication may affect kidney function, regular testing is necessary if kidney impairment is suspected, and periodic blood tests and monitoring for blood-related adverse reactions are required. Prolonged use may lead to excessive growth of fungi or non-susceptible bacteria, so if symptoms of dysbiosis, such as stomatitis or candidiasis, appear, the use of the medication should be discontinued. Skin rashes, severe skin reactions, liver function abnormalities, and neurological symptoms may also occur rarely, so any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with healthcare professionals. During pregnancy, the risk to the fetus is low; however, it should only be used when necessary, and during breastfeeding, caution should be taken as the baby may experience diarrhea or skin rashes. In children or neonates, caution should be exercised during administration due to immature kidney function which may delay the excretion of the drug, and elderly patients are also at higher risk of adverse effects due to diminished physiological functions. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals when using it alongside medications such as methotrexate, probenecid, allopurinol, and oral contraceptives. In case of overdose, neurological disturbances or renal failure may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment; this medication can be removed through hemodialysis, which may be helpful for patients with impaired kidney function. To prevent antibiotic resistance, it should only be used for the minimum necessary duration, and if any adverse reactions occur during treatment, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is advised.
