Precautions

This drug contains Donepezil Hydrochloride and is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia. This drug should not be administered to certain patients. For example, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or patients with allergic reactions to this drug or its components, and patients with genetic lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease or a history of gastric ulcers should be particularly cautious when using this medication. This medication may slow heart rate or cause arrhythmias, and it may increase gastric acid secretion, worsening peptic ulcers. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should also be cautious as their symptoms may worsen when taking this medication. For patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease, caution is needed as this drug may worsen their symptoms. This medication contains a colorant called Tartrazine, which may cause allergic reactions in sensitive patients. Various adverse effects may occur while taking this medication. For example, heart-related problems (syncope, bradycardia, heart block, etc.), gastrointestinal issues (gastric ulcers, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), liver function abnormalities, cerebrovascular issues, motor disturbances, and dyspnea have been reported. Additionally, neurological and systemic symptoms such as hallucinations, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, myalgia, etc., may occur. This medication should only be used for patients with Alzheimer's dementia and is not approved for other types of dementia or memory impairment. Treatment should be initiated by an experienced physician, with regular assessments of efficacy and adverse reactions. Patients with heart disease or electrolyte disturbances may be at risk of cardiac arrhythmias while taking this medication and may require ECG monitoring. Since this drug is primarily metabolized in the liver, caution is necessary for patients with impaired liver function. It may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, so caution is advised during the initial stages of treatment or dose escalation. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should refrain from using this medication; if necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued. This drug may interact with several medications; therefore, those taking other medications should consult their physician or pharmacist. In cases of overdose, serious symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention, and an antidote called Atropine may be used.
