This medication reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors and diabetes. It also helps to decrease the need for angina and vascular interventions, and reduce hospitalization risks due to congestive heart failure. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels and increases HDL (good cholesterol). It is particularly used as an adjunct to dietary therapy for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, effectively improving the risk of cardiovascular disease.
