Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, alleviation of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and improvement of gastrointestinal disorders
This medication is used to treat ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, as well as to relieve symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease. It can be administered in conjunction with antibiotics for patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori. Finally, it is utilized for the treatment of hypersecretion syndromes such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In short, this medication helps in the treatment of various gastrointestinal ulcers and gastroesophageal-related conditions.
Typically, for adults, 10 mg of Rabeprazole Sodium is administered orally once a day. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once a day. Treatment duration is up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease, 10 mg or 20 mg is typically administered orally once a day for 4 to 8 weeks. If not resolved after 8 weeks of proton pump inhibitors (PPI),
This drug should not be used in individuals who are allergic to any of its components or have a history of hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazole derivatives. Additionally, it should not be administered if there is an allergy to the antibiotics amoxicillin or clarithromycin when used against Helicobacter pylori eradication. Patients taking certain medications that may cause serious side effects when combined with this drug (such as terfenadine, cisapride, pimodzepid, astemizole, atazanavir, rilpivirine) also should not use this drug. It is advisable to avoid administering this medication to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Caution is also necessary for patients with impaired liver function or the elderly, as they may experience side effects more readily. Individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to medication should be administered with care. This drug may cause allergic reactions such as rashes, urticaria, and itching; thus, if any such symptoms occur, administration should be ceased immediately. Various side effects including blood-related abnormalities, liver dysfunction, cardiac and vascular issues, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological disorders, respiratory issues, muscle and joint pain, skin abnormalities, changes in vision and hearing, urinary tract issues have been reported, necessitating regular check-ups. In particular, long-term use may increase the risk of fractures related to osteoporosis, so caution is warranted. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract; if diarrhea persists, consulting a doctor is advised. Caution is necessary while driving or operating machinery due to possible drowsiness. Since this drug may interact with other medications, it's essential to discuss with a physician or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications. This drug should not be chewed or crushed and must be swallowed whole in tablet form, and should be kept out of reach of children. Extra care should be taken with pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, the elderly, patients with liver disease, and those with a history of drug allergies, and administration should be done only after consulting a physician if necessary.
