Improvement in blood pressure control when hypertension is not adequately managed with monotherapy.
This medication is used to effectively lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension who do not achieve adequate control with monotherapy.
The usual dose of this medication is one tablet of losartan potassium 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Dosages exceeding losartan potassium 100 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day are not advisable. Patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with monotherapy of losartan or hydrochlorothiazide should start with losartan potassium 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily.
There is no experience of using this medication in children and adolescents; therefore, the combination of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide is not administered to children and adolescents.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be stopped immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be used in patients with certain medical conditions or hypersensitivity, particularly those with severely impaired kidney function or pregnant women. Patients with low blood pressure, kidney issues, liver diseases, hyperuricemia, diabetes, cerebral vascular abnormalities, etc., need to be cautious when using this medication and should take it carefully as directed by a physician. This medication can cause various side effects such as dizziness, cough, skin rash, muscle pain, indigestion, and low blood pressure; any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. Hydrochlorothiazide may cause electrolyte imbalances, so regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor the electrolyte status, particularly for hypokalemia or hypercalcemia. During treatment with this medication, potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes should not be taken without consulting a doctor, as there is a possibility of drug interactions, and all medications being taken should be disclosed to a healthcare provider. Additionally, this medication may cause increased sensitivity to sunlight, so prolonged sun exposure should be avoided, and any skin abnormalities should be reported immediately. Elderly patients may experience side effects more frequently, thus extra caution is recommended while taking this medication, and care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness. This medication has inadequate experience for use in children and adolescents, thus is not recommended for these age groups. In case of overdose, symptoms may include low blood pressure or cardiac abnormalities, so adherence to the prescribed dosages is crucial, and if overdose is suspected, immediate medical attention should be sought. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to maintain quality.

This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in a container that does not allow light to enter. Additionally, it is recommended to keep the medication at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. This way, the efficacy of the medication can be maintained longer.
