Precautions

This medication is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by binding to certain proteins and interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis. It should not be administered to individuals who have previously experienced severe allergic reactions or shock from its use. Patients with allergies to this medication or similar classes of antibiotics should also not use it. Caution is advised for individuals allergic to penicillin or those with a predisposition to allergic reactions such as asthma and urticaria. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, who have difficulty swallowing, elderly individuals, and those with an overall poor health condition should be closely monitored for potential vitamin K deficiency. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis, need to be cautious when using this medication. This medication can occasionally cause severe allergic reactions, such as shock, so symptoms should be closely monitored during administration, and treatment should be ceased immediately if unusual symptoms occur. If severe rash, blisters, or mucosal damage occurs, the medication should be stopped immediately. Blood tests may show decreased white blood cells, platelets, or red blood cells, or a transient increase in liver function tests; regular monitoring for adverse reactions is necessary. This medication can also impact kidney function, so kidney function should be checked regularly, and the medication should be discontinued if renal impairment is noted. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur; if severe, consult with a healthcare professional immediately as it could indicate pseudomembranous colitis. Respiratory side effects such as pneumonia symptoms or difficulty breathing can rarely occur; discontinue treatment and seek medical attention if these symptoms develop. Central nervous system side effects can rarely include anxiety, agitation, dizziness, drowsiness, and hallucinations. Mouth ulcers or fungal infections like candidiasis may develop during treatment, so oral health should be monitored closely. Symptoms of vitamin K and B deficiency may rarely occur; watch for bleeding tendencies or neurological symptoms. This medication may interact with other drugs, so especially when used with probenecid, nephrotoxic agents, diuretics, anticoagulants, and oral contraceptives, consultation and careful observation by a healthcare professional are warranted. The safety of this medication has not been adequately established in pregnant or breastfeeding women, so it should only be used when the benefits outweigh the risks and should be approached with caution during breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in neonates, especially those under 1 month; it is recommended to avoid use in this population. Elderly patients may have increased susceptibility to side effects due to decreased body function, so dosing and administration intervals should be adjusted and closely monitored. It is important to administer this medication only for the minimum period required to avoid the development of drug-resistant bacteria. If any unusual symptoms occur during treatment, alert a healthcare professional immediately and receive appropriate action.
