Effectiveness in relieving symptoms of gastric ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as treating Helicobacter pylori infections.
This drug is used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, and to relieve symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used in combination with antibiotics to treat gastrointestinal ulcer patients infected with Helicobacter pylori. It is also utilized for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It helps improve symptoms and treat various gastrointestinal-related diseases.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Usually, 10 mg is taken orally once daily, which may be increased to 20 mg once daily depending on symptoms. Treatment for gastric ulcers is usually up to 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcers, up to 6 weeks. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg taken orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks, and if symptoms are not resolved after the initial 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg taken orally twice daily may be considered.
This drug should not be used in patients with known allergies to specific components or a history of hypersensitivity reactions. In addition, it should be avoided in patients with known allergies to certain antibiotics that may be used in conjunction with this drug. It is not safe for use in patients taking certain heart-related medications or in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with liver function problems or elderly patients, and those with a history of drug hypersensitivity should use this drug with caution. If symptoms such as rash or itching occur during treatment with this drug, it should be discontinued immediately. Regular blood tests may be needed as changes in red blood cell, white blood cell, and platelet counts can occur. Liver function tests should also be performed regularly and appropriate measures taken if abnormal findings are observed. Symptoms related to heart conditions or gastrointestinal issues, as well as neurological symptoms, may occur, so medical consultation is advised if these symptoms arise. Respiratory symptoms or skin rashes and eye-related abnormal symptoms have also been reported, hence caution is necessary. Long-term use of this drug may increase the risk of fractures and may lead to hypomagnesemia, so periodic monitoring and supplementation may be required. As it suppresses gastric acid secretion, there may be a slight increase in the risk of bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal tract, hence patients should inform their healthcare provider if persistent diarrhea occurs. This drug does not significantly affect driving or operating machinery, but caution should be exercised as drowsiness may occur. Since it can interact with other medications, patients should inform their healthcare provider of any medications they are taking, especially when using antibiotics or antivirals concurrently. Safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, so it is advisable to avoid use in such cases. Elderly patients may be at higher risk for adverse reactions due to decreased liver function, so treatment should be discontinued and consultation sought if symptoms arise. Safety in children has not been established, so its use is not advisable. This drug should not be chewed or crushed, and must be swallowed whole, and should be stored out of reach of children.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme fatigue, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, markedly reduced urine output, severe swelling with accompanying hypertension, rash, urticaria, toxic epidermal necrolysis

This drug should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is recommended to maintain the storage temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius.
