This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to this medication or to ephedrine or piperazine, patients with severe hypertension or heart disease, patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or patients with increased intraocular pressure or urinary retention. Caution is required for patients with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, arrhythmias, or impaired kidney or liver function, and those taking other central nervous system stimulants or certain antidepressants or heart medications should also be careful. This medication contains Yellow No. 4 dye, and patients who have allergic reactions to this component should definitely consult a doctor before use. Common side effects include dry mouth, headaches, insomnia, dizziness, and nausea, while serious symptoms such as anxiety, hallucinations, seizures, cardiac arrhythmias, and hypotension may occur rarely. Also, allergic reactions such as skin rashes, angioedema, and anaphylactic shock may occur, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Pseudoephedrine may cause ischemic colitis symptoms such as acute abdominal pain and rectal bleeding, and if sudden severe headaches, confusion, seizures, or visual disturbances occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Eye-related side effects may include blurred vision, pupil dilation, and glare, and in men, erectile dysfunction may occur as well. This medication can interact with other medications, so patients taking particularly monoamine oxidase inhibitors, antihypertensives, or digitalis preparations must inform their doctor before taking it.
