This medication helps improve the symptoms of vascular atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. Additionally, it prevents serious cardiovascular problems in adults suffering from acute coronary syndrome, such as unstable angina or non-Q wave myocardial infarction who have undergone coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass surgery. It also reduces the risk of thrombotic and embolic events such as stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors but are unsuitable for vitamin K antagonists. This medication is effective in improving symptoms and reducing the risks of major vascular diseases and is used to enhance the overall vascular health of patients.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent platelets from clumping together, thus aiding the smooth flow of blood. First, individuals who genetically have reduced functional activity of the enzyme CYP2C19 may find this medication ineffective. In such cases, alternative treatments should be considered. Additionally, concomitant use of medications that activate this enzyme can increase the concentration of this medication too high, raising the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to use them together. This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to certain components, severe bleeding, very poor liver function, nursing women, and patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders. Patients at risk of bleeding, those with blood disorders, and those scheduled for surgery should use this medication with caution and notify healthcare providers immediately if any bleeding symptoms occur. Particularly, increased care is necessary when taken with other medications that may raise the risk of bleeding. During the use of this medication, bleeding times may be prolonged; hence, if bleeding doesn’t stop or the bleeding site worsens, it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. This medication can rarely cause thrombocytopenia or serious blood disorders, thus patients should inform healthcare providers if symptoms of fever or infection occur. Side effects may include abdominal pain, indigestion, diarrhea, rash, etc., and if serious side effects occur, immediate medical attention is required. If pregnant or nursing, this medication may affect the fetus or infant, so it is essential to consult a physician. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function may have increased sensitivity to the effects and side effects of this medication, requiring caution during administration. In cases of overdose, the risk of bleeding may increase, and since there is no specific antidote, treatment such as platelet transfusion may be necessary for severe bleeding. This medication has not been established for safety and efficacy in children, so it is advisable not to use it. Finally, if starting any new medications or undergoing surgery while taking this medication, be sure to inform healthcare providers.
