Improvement in blood pressure control when monotherapy for hypertension is inadequate
This medication helps effectively manage blood pressure in patients with hypertension when monotherapy is insufficient.
The usual adult dosage is one tablet of losartan potassium 50 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. A dosage greater than losartan potassium 100 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day is not recommended. Treatment should start with one tablet of losartan potassium 50 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, and if blood pressure is not controlled after three weeks of usage, the maximum dosage can be increased to losartan potassium 100 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily.
There is no experience in using this combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide in children and adolescents; therefore, it is not administered to them.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients who are allergic to this medication or have specific kidney or liver diseases, or electrolyte imbalances, should not take it. Patients with hypotension, kidney issues, liver impairment, gout, diabetes, etc., should use this medication cautiously, and elderly patients should also be careful. This medication lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. During treatment, electrolyte levels and kidney function should be monitored regularly through blood tests, and care should be taken to ensure potassium levels do not become too high or too low. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to consult a doctor when taking it with potassium supplements, certain diuretics, or antihypertensive medications. The hydrochlorothiazide component may increase sensitivity to sunlight, so exposure should be minimized, and any skin changes should be reported to a doctor. If severe swelling, difficulty breathing, or allergic symptoms like rashes appear during treatment, consult a healthcare professional immediately. There is no experience with this medication's use in children or adolescents, so it should not be administered to them. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it is advisable to avoid taking it while breastfeeding. Overdosage may lead to hypotension or heart rhythm disturbances, so dosages should be adhered to, and any unusual symptoms should prompt an immediate visit to a medical institution.
Urticaria, angioedema (swelling of the larynx that can cause airway obstruction, swelling of the face/lips/throat/tongue), severe swelling (edema), difficulty breathing, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), severe lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusional state, visual disturbances, paralysis, significantly reduced urine output
