Treatment of respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchitis), urinary tract infections (cystitis), and skin infections
This drug is effective for the treatment of infections caused by various bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, influenza bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli. It is used for respiratory infections such as otitis media, pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis, as well as urinary tract infections like pyelonephritis, cystitis, and urethritis. It also treats skin and soft tissue infections, such as carbuncles, abscesses, folliculitis, cellulitis, and wound infections. The sustained-release formulation is particularly suitable for the treatment of recurrent acute and chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, lower urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. It demonstrates robust efficacy against a wide variety of bacterial strains and improves symptoms associated with infections. Therefore, this drug is used for treating infections in various sites, including the respiratory system, urinary tract, and skin.
Administer 250 mg (potency) of cefaclor orally every 8 hours. In cases of severe infections and infections with reduced susceptibility, the dose may be doubled. For acute gonococcal urethritis, administer this drug 3 g with probenecid 1 g in a single dose. For the sustained-release form, administer 375 mg (potency) orally twice daily. For the treatment of infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, treatment should continue for more than 10 days.
Administer 20 mg/kg of body weight per day (potency) divided every 8 hours. For severe infections, otitis media, and infections with reduced susceptibility, administer 40 mg/kg of body weight per day, with a maximum dose of 1 g per day.
This drug is an antibiotic that works by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall to treat infections. This drug should not be used by individuals who have experienced shock reactions in the past or are allergic to this drug or similar classes of medications. Those who are allergic to penicillin-class drugs or commonly experience allergy symptoms such as asthma or skin rashes should use this drug with caution. Patients with severely impaired renal function, elderly individuals, or those in poor nutritional status should be carefully monitored for the risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency while taking this drug. Individuals with gastrointestinal diseases should consult their doctor before using this drug, as issues such as colitis may arise. Rarely, shock, severe allergic reactions, or severe skin rashes or ulcers may occur, and if such symptoms arise, the drug should be discontinued immediately, and medical attention should be sought. Blood tests may show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, liver function abnormalities, or renal impairment; therefore, regular monitoring during treatment is necessary. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may manifest, and if severe diarrhea or bloody stools occur, immediate discontinuation and consultation with a physician are advised. Symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, or fever may indicate respiratory issues like pneumonia, requiring prompt medical care. Centrally acting side effects, such as anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, and hallucinations, may occur rarely. Candida infections like oral or genital fungal infections may develop during treatment, so patients should report any abnormalities in these areas. There is also a rare risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency and symptoms of vitamin B complex deficiency, requiring careful nutritional management. This drug may interact with other medications, so patients taking anticoagulants, antacids, diuretics, or oral contraceptives should inform their doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only use this drug if absolutely necessary, as its safety has not been fully established; caution is advised during breastfeeding. This drug should be avoided in neonates under one month old, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients should take this drug cautiously due to increased risk of side effects related to diminished bodily function; dosage and intervals should be adjusted accordingly. Overdose may result in nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc., and in such cases, appropriate medical treatment should be sought immediately. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is important to perform susceptibility testing and to use the drug for the shortest necessary duration. If any abnormal symptoms or discomfort occur during treatment, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is advised for appropriate action.
