Treatment of herpes zoster virus infection
This medication is used for herpes zoster virus infections.
1. Treatment of herpes zoster Adults: Administer 750 mg of famciclovir orally once daily for 7 days. Take it at the same time each day. It is preferable to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 2. Patients with renal impairment: Because the creatinine clearance of this medicine is reduced in patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment should be undertaken with care. The dosage for these patients is as follows. 1) Treatment of herpes zoster Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 30~59 : 250 mg per dose, 2 times daily 10~29 : 250 mg per dose, once daily 2) If only serum creatinine is known, creatinine clearance can be calculated using the following formula. Men: {body weight (kg) × (140-age)}/ {72 × serum creatinine (mg/dL)} Women: 0.85 × the value calculated for men 3) Patients with renal impairment undergoing hemodialysis: For patients on hemodialysis, administration every 48 hours is preferable, taking the dialysis interval into account. Since 4 hours of hemodialysis reduces the plasma concentration of this medicine by approximately 75%, administer the entire dose immediately after dialysis. 3. Patients with hepatic impairment: No separate dose adjustment is required for patients with chronic compensated liver disease. There is insufficient treatment experience in patients with overt chronic decompensated liver disease; therefore, a clear recommended dose has not been established.
This medicine should not be used by patients who are allergic to this medicine or any of its components, or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to penciclovir. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so patients with a genetic disorder that prevents lactose digestion should avoid its use. Patients with renal impairment should use this medication with caution, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. While taking this medication, mild side effects such as headaches or nausea may occur, but they are generally not severe. Rarely, abnormal blood responses such as thrombocytopenia or leukopenia may occur, and any unusual symptoms should be consulted with a healthcare professional. Mental confusion, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur, so avoid driving or operating machinery if such symptoms are present. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may commonly occur. Liver function abnormalities, skin rash, itching, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions may also occur, so caution is required if there are any skin changes. In patients with decreased kidney function, acute renal failure has been reported rarely, so renal status should be monitored closely. This medication does not cure genital herpes; therefore, even during treatment, it is important to avoid sexual contact and maintain safe sex practices if symptoms are present. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks of this medication prior to administration, and breastfeeding individuals should also consult with a physician before use. This medication is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly individuals typically do not require dosage adjustments, but dosage should be adjusted if renal function is poor. When used in combination with other medications, some drugs may affect the serum concentration of this medication, so if you are taking any other medications, you must inform your healthcare provider. In case of overdose, appropriate treatment and hemodialysis may be necessary, so be cautious not to exceed the recommended dosage. This medication should be stored in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius, out of reach of children. Transferring it to another container may alter its quality; therefore, it is advisable to maintain the original packaging.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, and should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Also, it should be kept in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its effectiveness.
