Treatment of herpes zoster virus infection
Herpes zoster virus infection is a condition that causes severe blistering pain on the skin and can lead to neuralgia. This medication is used to alleviate the symptoms of herpes zoster virus infection and inhibit viral activity.
1. Treatment of herpes zoster Adults: Administer 750 mg of famciclovir orally once daily for 7 days. Take it at the same time every day. It is advisable to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 2. Patients with renal impairment: In patients with renal impairment, use caution when adjusting the dose because creatinine clearance of this drug is reduced. The dosage for these patients is as follows. 1) Treatment of herpes zoster Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 30~59: 250 mg per dose, twice daily Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 10~29: 250 mg per dose, once daily 2) If only serum creatinine is known, creatinine clearance may be calculated using the following formula. Men: {body weight (kg) × (140-age)}/ {72 × serum creatinine (mg/dL)} Women: 0.85 × the value calculated for men 3) Patients with renal impairment undergoing hemodialysis: For patients on hemodialysis, administration every 48 hours is advisable, taking the dialysis interval into consideration. Four hours of hemodialysis reduces the plasma concentration of this drug by approximately 75%; therefore, administer the entire dose immediately after dialysis. 3. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with chronic compensated liver disease. There is insufficient treatment experience in patients with overt chronic decompensated liver disease; therefore, no clear recommended dose has been established.
This medication should not be used in patients allergic to this drug or its components.
