Treatment of epilepsy (partial seizures, tonic-clonic seizures, etc.) and panic disorder
This medication is used to alleviate neurological seizure symptoms such as epilepsy. It is effective for focal seizures and generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and is also helpful for various forms of epilepsy in children and adolescents. Additionally, it is utilized for the treatment of panic disorder accompanied by anxiety, improving the patient's symptoms. It is used to treat a variety of neurological disorders and psychiatric symptoms.
The dose should be adjusted individually according to the patient's clinical response and tolerability. ○ Epilepsy and partial-onset (focal) seizures, primary and secondarily generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal), and epilepsy in infants and children (particularly typical and atypical absence seizures) Initial dose - To prevent adverse effects from occurring early in treatment, increase the dose slowly until the patient's optimal dose is determined, reaching the maintenance dose within 2-4 weeks. Maintenance dose - The dose should be adjusted appropriately according to the patient's age and symptoms (including seizure duration, frequency and severity, and whether other antiepileptic drugs are used concomitantly). Determine the optimal dose considering tolerability and clinical response to this medication. 1. Adults: The initial dose of clonazepam should not exceed 1.5㎎ daily and should be administered orally in 3 divided doses. If the doses are not equal, administer the largest dose in the evening. Increase the dose by 0.5㎎ every 3 days to a maintenance dose of 3-6㎎ daily. Once the maintenance dose is reached, administer once daily. ○ Panic disorder 1. Adults: The initial dose is 0.5mg daily in 2 divided doses. In most patients, the dose may be increased to the target dose of 1mg daily after 3 days. The recommended dose of 1mg daily is based on the optimal efficacy observed in fixed-dose studies. However, if necessary, the dose may be increased by 0.25~0.5mg every 3 days, up to a maximum of 4mg daily in 2 divided doses, until panic disorder is controlled or adverse effects prevent further increases. To reduce drowsiness, the total daily dose may be taken as a single dose at bedtime. At the end of treatment, gradually reduce the dose by 0.25mg every 3 days. ○ Older adults Administer the lowest possible dose to older adults, and use particular caution when increasing the dose.
2. Children (10-16 years): The initial dose is 1-1.5㎎ daily in 2-3 divided doses. Increase the dose by 0.25-0.5㎎ every 3 days to a maintenance dose of 3-6㎎ daily. 3. Infants and children (10 years or younger or weighing 30㎏ or less): The initial dose is 0.01-0.03㎎ per ㎏ of body weight daily in 2-3 divided doses. Increase the dose by 0.25-0.5㎎ every 3 days to a maintenance dose of 0.1㎎ per ㎏ of body weight daily. The maximum dose is 0.2㎎ per ㎏ of body weight.
