This medication is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It helps prevent the loss of bone density, strengthens bones, and reduces the risk of fractures. It aids in pain relief from osteoporosis and supports the maintenance of bone health for a healthier life.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet once a month regularly in the morning at least 1 hour before consuming food, drinks (excluding water), or other oral medications or dietary supplements (including calcium), with sufficient water. This medication should be swallowed while standing or sitting upright with a sufficient amount (180-240mL) of water, and lying down is prohibited for 60 minutes after taking it. Mineral water may reduce the absorption of this drug.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have an allergic reaction to this drug or its other components. Furthermore, it should not be administered to patients with untreated hypocalcemia. Patients should remain in an upright position or sit for at least 60 minutes after taking this medication, and it is not suitable for patients who find it difficult to do so. Patients with esophageal dysfunction where food goes down poorly could be at risk when taking this drug. Since this medication contains lactose, patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic conditions should not take it. Caution is advised when administering this drug to patients with severe renal impairment, requiring medical judgment. Various side effects may occur during the use of this drug, including dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, and rash. Flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, and muscle aches may occur, especially at the beginning of treatment, but are usually temporary. Rarely, symptoms such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, dizziness, and low back pain may appear; if severe symptoms arise, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. This drug can cause severe side effects such as inflammation of the eyes or jaw osteonecrosis, hence reporting any unusual symptoms immediately is crucial. If dental treatment is required, an oral examination should be conducted before use, and excessive dental treatment during the course of treatment is recommended to be avoided. This drug may interfere with absorption when taken with food or products containing calcium, magnesium, iron, etc., so it is recommended not to consume any other food or medication for at least 1 hour after taking it. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this drug for safety. Older adults can use it without dosage adjustment, but safety and efficacy have not been established in children. Overdose may result in gastrointestinal disturbances or hypocalcemia, necessitating the maintenance of a standing position and immediate visit to a medical institution without inducing vomiting. This drug should be stored out of reach of children, and unused medication should be disposed of properly to prevent environmental contamination.
