Adult patients with renal impairment should adjust the dosage based on kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)). - Normal kidney function (≥ 90 mL/min): 5mg once a day - Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 5mg once a day - Moderate renal impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 5mg once every 2 days Severe renal impairment (15 -< 30 mL/min): does not require dialysis. 5mg once every 3 days End-stage renal disease (< 15 mL/min): requires dialysis contraindicated. Pediatric patients with renal impairment should have their dosage adjusted based on kidney function and weight.

This medication helps relieve symptoms of persistent allergic rhinitis, such as seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. It also alleviates symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria and is used in combination with hydrocortisone topical agents for the treatment of dermatitis and eczema with itching in adults and children aged 6 and older. Overall, it is used to improve symptoms associated with allergy and skin-related disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children aged 6 and older: 5mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride (10mL as a liquid), administered orally once a day, regardless of meals. Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who have had allergic reactions to specific ingredients, patients with end-stage renal disease, and infants under 1 year of age. In children under 6 years old, it should only be administered in liquid form and not in tablet form, as the liquid contains maltitol, which should not be given to patients who do not tolerate fructose. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function and the elderly should use this drug cautiously, as blood concentration may increase. Varied side effects such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur during use; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a doctor. This medication may cause drowsiness or fatigue, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may increase drowsiness; therefore, it is advisable not to take them together. Patients with urinary excretion issues, liver disease, or a risk of seizures should take special care when using this drug. The liquid formulation contains preservatives and sweeteners that may cause allergic reactions or health issues, so caution should be exercised in those with sensitivities. Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as there is insufficient safety data. It is safer not to use this medication in children, especially infants under 1 year of age, due to limited experience in use. The elderly may have reduced kidney function, so they should start with a lower dose and adjust while monitoring their condition. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication prior to allergy testing, as it may affect test results. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or anxiety may occur, and there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment should be provided.
