This medicine helps with the expulsion of sputum, i.e., phlegm, in diseases where it is difficult to expectorate, such as acute or chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, and pharyngitis. It is also effective in draining fluid from the middle ear caused by chronic sinusitis or otitis media with effusion. It is used to alleviate unpleasant symptoms in respiratory and ENT diseases.

Dosage and Administration

Children's dosage

Ages 6 to 12: Take 250 mg of carbocisteine 3 times a day. Ages 2 to 5: Take 250 to 500 mg of this medicine divided into 4 doses per day.

Precautions

This medicine should not be taken by patients with ulcers in the stomach or duodenum. People with allergic reactions to this medicine or any of its components should also avoid taking it. It is also advisable not to use in children under 2 years of age. Patients with liver or heart problems must consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Those with a history of stomach or duodenal ulcers should also consult a specialist before taking it. Pregnant women or those possibly pregnant are advised not to take this medicine, especially during the first three months of pregnancy. Breastfeeding women should also avoid this medicine as its safety has not been established. Elderly individuals or those with decreased physiological functions should use this medicine cautiously and may need to reduce the dosage. If symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, gastrointestinal bleeding, heartburn, loss of appetite, diarrhea, or thirst occur while taking this medicine, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. If allergic reactions such as rashes, red spots, eczema, headaches, rhinitis, itching, palpitations, runny nose, or generalized pressure sensation occur, stop taking the medicine and consult a doctor. In very rare cases, serious symptoms affecting the skin and mucous membranes may occur, and immediate treatment is necessary if such symptoms appear. If liver function abnormalities or symptoms of jaundice occur, discontinue use and visit a hospital. Immediate emergency treatment is required in case of severe allergic shock or anaphylaxis-like reactions. If cough persists for more than 14 days, stop taking this medicine and inform your doctor. In case of overdose, gastric lavage may be helpful, as gastrointestinal disturbances are the most common side effects. When taken with antibiotics or certain syrup types, the color or smell of the medicine may change, so it is advisable to avoid taking them together and to take them separately. This medicine should be stored out of the reach of children, away from direct sunlight, and in a cool, dry place with a tightly closed lid. Removing the medicine from its original container and storing it in another container can lead to misuse and may affect the quality of the medicine, so it should be stored in its original container.
