Treatment of infections in the respiratory system (bronchitis, pneumonia), urogenital system (cystitis, gonorrhea), and digestive system (typhoid fever, dysentery)
This medication is effective against a variety of bacterial infections. It is used to treat respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, and otitis media. It also helps in treating urogenital infections like cystitis, pyelonephritis, and urethritis, as well as sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea. It is effective for treating gastrointestinal infections such as typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and bacterial dysentery. It acts against various pathogens including Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus species to treat infections. This medication is used to improve the overall symptoms of bacterial infections.
For adults and children over 12 years, administer 10 mL once, twice a day via slow intravenous drip every 12 hours. In cases of severe infection, administer 15 mL once. For Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, administer trimethoprim 20 mg and sulfamethoxazole 100 mg per kg of weight in four divided doses per day for 14 days. This medication can cause severe skin reactions, blood disorders, and respiratory hypersensitivity, which are potentially life-threatening; therefore, administration must be stopped immediately if any abnormal symptoms appear. It is not used for treating streptococcal pharyngitis, and care must be taken to avoid glass particle contamination in the injection. Allergic reactions or severe asthma may occur due to specific components, so sensitive patients should be cautious. Components in the solvent can be toxic to the kidneys and central nervous system, requiring monitoring when administered in high doses. Patients with a history of allergies to this medication or its components, pregnant women, newborns, or those with specific genetic disorders should not be treated with it. Patients with blood disorders, allergic constitution, liver disorders, kidney disorders, elderly individuals, and those with hypothyroidism should be treated with caution, and immediate action is required if adverse reactions occur. Regular blood, liver, and kidney function tests should be performed during treatment to detect any warnings early. This medication has various interactions with other drugs; therefore, consultation with a specialist and necessary tests are required when used in combination. Pregnant or lactating women should not use this medication, and it should not be administered to infants due to the risk of hyperbilirubinemia. Elderly patients are at higher risk of side effects due to decreased kidney function, so dose adjustment and caution are necessary. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and jaundice may occur, and in severe cases, professional treatment may be required. When administering the injection, care should be taken to prevent the medication from leaking outside the blood vessel, and if localized inflammation occurs, administration should be stopped and injected at another site. Long-term use of this medication can lead to the development of resistant bacteria and the risk of superinfection; therefore, it should only be used for the minimum necessary period, and regular clinical examinations are required.
