Improvement of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia
This medication is used for the treatment of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. After 15 days, a normal state is reached, and the dosage of 5 mg is maintained for 4-6 weeks. After evaluating clinical response, it may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg per day, caution should be taken for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Women over 85 years of age who are underweight should not exceed 5 mg per day and require careful monitoring.
There is no experience with use in children.
This medication contains Donepezil Hydrochloride Hydrate as its main ingredient and is primarily used to improve symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. First, this medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals who have an allergy to this medication or its ingredients, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and nursing women should not take this medication. Additionally, because it contains lactose, individuals with lactose intolerance or specific genetic lactose metabolism disorders should not use this medication. When using this medication, certain health conditions should be carefully monitored. Patients with heart diseases, particularly those at risk of bradycardia or arrhythmia, should have their heart function closely observed. Additionally, patients with a history of peptic ulcers or those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should closely monitor their gastrointestinal condition. Patients with asthma or obstructive lung diseases may experience exacerbation of symptoms when taking this medication, thus caution is needed. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease may also see worsening of symptoms with this medication. Various side effects have been reported with this medication. Cardiac-related problems may include fainting, bradycardia, heart block, and heart failure, while gastrointestinal issues may lead to gastric ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Serious adverse reactions have also been reported including liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular problems, seizures, movement disorders, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure. Additionally, a variety of neurological and skin responses such as hallucinations, insomnia, anxiety, depression, myalgia, rashes, and others may also occur. Since this medication may affect cardiac conduction, ECG monitoring is necessary when taken with medications that carry the risk of QT interval prolongation or ventricular tachycardia. It may also interact with several drugs, particularly those that inhibit or induce the enzymes that metabolize this medication in the liver, thus caution should be exercised. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medication, and if absolutely necessary, it should be done in consultation with healthcare professionals. Safety in children has not yet been established. In cases of overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, respiratory depression, and seizures, requiring urgent treatment. In such cases, antidotes like atropine may be used for treatment. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers as this may affect product quality.
