Treatment of herpes zoster virus infection
Used for herpes zoster viral infections.
1. Treatment of herpes zoster Adults: Administer famciclovir 750 mg orally once daily for 7 days. Take it at the same time each day. It is preferable to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 2. Patients with renal impairment: Since the creatinine clearance of this drug is reduced in patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment should be undertaken with care. The dosage and administration for these patients are as follows. 1) Treatment of herpes zoster Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73 m²) 30~59: 250 mg per dose, twice daily 10~29: 250 mg per dose, once daily 2) If only the serum creatinine level is known, creatinine clearance can be calculated using the following equations. Men: {body weight (kg) × (140-age)}/ {72 × serum creatinine (mg/dL)} Women: 0.85 × the value calculated for men 3) Patients with renal impairment undergoing hemodialysis: For patients on hemodialysis, administration every 48 hours is preferable, taking the dialysis interval into consideration. Hemodialysis for 4 hours reduces the plasma concentration of this drug by approximately 75%; therefore, administer the full dose of this drug immediately after dialysis. 3. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with chronic compensated liver disease. There is insufficient treatment experience in patients with clear chronic decompensated liver disease; therefore, no clear recommended dose has been established.
This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or its components. Patients with renal function issues should use this drug with caution, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. During treatment with this drug, mild symptoms such as headache or nausea may occur, but they are generally not severe. Blood-related adverse reactions may lead to a decrease in platelet count, and there may be a possibility of reduced white blood cell counts. Neurological symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion may occur, so avoid driving or operating machinery if these symptoms appear. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may commonly occur. Liver function abnormalities or rarely jaundice may occur, so it's advisable to periodically check liver health. Skin may develop rashes or itching, and serious skin reactions may rarely occur, so immediate consultation with a doctor is recommended if abnormal symptoms appear. Acute renal failure may rarely occur in patients with reduced kidney function, so kidney status should be monitored closely. This drug does not cure genital herpes, and safe sex should be practiced during treatment to prevent infection transmission. While it does not directly affect driving or machinery operation, caution should be taken if symptoms of dizziness or drowsiness appear. Patients with impaired liver function do not require specific dosage adjustments; however, drug efficacy may decrease in patients with severe liver dysfunction. When used with other medications, some drugs may impact the blood concentration of this drug, so consult a doctor when concomitantly used. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully weigh the risks and benefits of using this drug, and nursing women should use it only when necessary. It is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. In elderly patients, if renal function is impaired, dosage adjustments may be necessary; otherwise, the standard dosage may be used. In case of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment, and hemodialysis can partially remove the active ingredient from this drug. Store this medication in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius, and keep it in a secure location out of reach of children. Also, transferring it to another container may negatively affect quality, so caution is advised.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This drug is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. Additionally, it is best to keep it in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius.
