This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adults with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral artery disease. It also helps to reduce the risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with acute coronary syndrome. In patients with atrial fibrillation with low bleeding risk and who are not suitable for vitamin K antagonist therapy, it is also effective in reducing the risk of stroke and thromboembolism. In summary, this medication is used to improve various atherosclerotic symptoms related to cardiovascular diseases and to reduce the risk of thrombus formation, thereby improving health status.

Precautions

This medication prevents platelets from clumping together and prevents blood from clotting. The effectiveness of this medication may be reduced in patients with genetically decreased CYP2C19 enzyme function, and in such cases, it may be necessary to consider changing treatment methods or different medications. Also, taking this medication together with drugs that activate the CYP2C19 enzyme can enhance the effect of this medication too much and increase the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to take them together. This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to this medication or its components, those with existing bleeding, patients with severe liver damage, breastfeeding women, and certain genetically susceptible lactose intolerant patients. Patients at high risk of bleeding or those scheduled for surgery should be careful when taking this medication, and it is recommended to stop taking it 5 to 7 days before surgery. This medication may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with other drugs that also increase bleeding risk; therefore, caution is needed when co-administering. If symptoms of bleeding or blood abnormalities occur during the course of this medication, consult a doctor immediately. Pregnant women may have an increased risk of bleeding when taking this medication, so it is recommended to stop taking it before delivery. Lactating women should carefully consider whether to take this medication, as it may pass into breast milk. This medication is not used in children as its safety and effectiveness have not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced body function and a higher risk of bleeding, so they should take it carefully under a doctor's direction. In case of overdose, the risk of bleeding may increase, and as there is no specific antidote, treatments such as platelet transfusion may be needed if bleeding is severe. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
