Precautions

This medication is used only for severe infections and may occasionally cause serious colitis, so caution is advised. Symptoms of colitis may include severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever, and may sometimes be accompanied by blood or mucus in the stool. If diarrhea worsens while using this medication, treatment should be discontinued immediately or monitored closely and endoscopy may be advisable. This medication does not penetrate well into spinal fluid, making it unsuitable for meningitis treatment. In the case of injections, glass fragments may be included when opening an ampule, so care should be taken especially when administering to children or the elderly. Patients allergic to lincomycin or clindamycin should not use this medication. Elderly or frail patients, those with impaired liver or kidney function, and patients with atopy or asthma should use this medication with caution. Patients with myasthenia gravis may experience exacerbated symptoms and should take caution. Pain or inflammation may occur at the injection site, so deep injections or prolonged catheter use should be avoided. Gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as generalized flushing, hives, or breathing difficulties arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and emergency care should be sought. If skin rashes or swelling, itching, etc. occur, use should be discontinued and medical consultation should be sought. As this may affect liver and kidney functions, regular testing is necessary if used for a prolonged period. Muscle or joint pain may occur, and in severe cases, heart issues can arise, so caution is necessary. Blood test abnormalities have been reported, making it important to monitor blood status during long-term administration. The effect of this medication on driving or operating machinery is not clear, thus caution is advised. In cases of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. It is advisable that this medication not be used by pregnant or nursing women, and it should be used cautiously in newborns and children. After administration, use should be limited to the minimum required duration to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, and if symptoms are severe, treatment should be stopped immediately and appropriate care taken. There may be interactions with some muscle relaxants or antibiotics, so consult with a healthcare professional when taking them together.
