Adult dose
1. Adults The therapeutic dose of this drug should be adjusted appropriately according to the patient's response and severity of symptoms. The initial dose is 2 mg of lacidipine once daily. Administer it at the same time each day, preferably in the morning, regardless of meals. If a dose increase is needed, increase to 4 mg once daily after an appropriate period has elapsed to allow the pharmacological effect to be fully evaluated. Increase to 6 mg once daily only if blood pressure is not controlled with 4 mg once daily. The period before deciding on an increase should be at least 3 ~ 4 weeks, the time required for this drug to achieve its full pharmacological effect, except in patients who require a more rapid increase. If an adequate response is not achieved, another antihypertensive agent may be added (a beta-blocker and/or a diuretic). 2. Patients with hepatic impairment Because this drug is primarily metabolized in the liver, its bioavailability and blood pressure-lowering effect may be increased in patients with hepatic impairment. These patients should be monitored carefully, and a reduction in the initial dose is recommended. 3. Patients with renal impairment Since this drug is not excreted through the kidneys, dose adjustment is not necessary in patients with renal impairment. 4. Elderly patients Administer an initial dose of 2 mg once daily. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 4 mg once daily after 4 weeks.
Child dose
There is no experience with the use of this drug in children.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this drug or similar components, pregnant or nursing women, patients with cardiogenic shock or unstable angina, patients with aortic stenosis, patients experiencing a myocardial infarction or within one month after it, patients with left ventricular dysfunction, patients receiving dantrolene, and patients with genetic problems such as lactose intolerance. Moreover, it should be administered cautiously to patients with dysfunction of the sinoatrial or atrioventricular nodes, patients with inadequate cardiac reserve, patients with liver dysfunction, patients with prolonged QT interval, and patients with unstable angina. Generally, this medication is considered safe; however, mild side effects such as dizziness, headache, palpitations, flushing, abdominal discomfort, rash, and swelling may occur. If symptoms worsen, especially in patients with angina, consultation with a physician is necessary. Discontinuing this medication abruptly may worsen symptoms, so dosage should be reduced gradually, and patients should be cautioned against stopping medication without a doctor's guidance. Because it can affect heart rate and blood pressure, close monitoring of the heart condition is required in the early stages of administration, and immediate consultation with a physician is necessary if chest pain occurs. When used in conjunction with other antihypertensive agents, there is a risk of enhanced blood pressure-lowering effects, so caution is required. Furthermore, interactions may occur with certain drugs such as cimetidine, phenytoin, and carbamazepine, and concomitant use with grapefruit juice may alter efficacy, so it should be avoided. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid the use of this medication, and safety in children has not been established. In the case of overdose, prolonged hypotension and rapid heart rate may occur, and bradycardia or cardiac conduction abnormalities could arise, necessitating immediate medical treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
