Precautions

This medication is based on Donepezil Hydrochloride Hydrate for treating symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. This drug should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this drug or its components, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and those with lactose intolerance or certain hereditary metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease, especially with bradycardia syndromes or cardiac conduction disorders, should be cautious as this drug may slow heart rate or induce arrhythmias. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should use this medication carefully as it may stimulate gastric acid secretion and increase gastrointestinal motility, worsening ulcer symptoms. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be cautious as it may exacerbate respiratory symptoms due to bronchoconstriction and increased mucus secretion. This medication may worsen symptoms in patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease. This drug can cause various adverse reactions, and in severe cases can lead to fainting, heart problems, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular issues, and motor disorders. Commonly, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue, and headaches may occur. This medication should be used under the supervision of a physician experienced in dementia treatment, and treatment may be discontinued if there is no therapeutic effect or if significant side effects occur. Patients with heart disease or electrolyte abnormalities should have their heart condition monitored regularly while taking this medication. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may occur. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if taking other medications, it is essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist. It is generally advised that pregnant or nursing mothers do not take this medication, and if necessary, they may need to discontinue breastfeeding based on a specialist's judgment. The safety for children has not been established, so it should not be used.
