Precautions

This medication can irritate the mucosa of the upper gastrointestinal tract, causing esophageal adverse reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosions. These symptoms may be accompanied by bleeding and can rarely lead to esophageal obstruction or perforation; therefore, if symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, pain during swallowing, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn appear, the patient should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. It is important to take the medication with a sufficient amount of water and not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it; maintaining an upright posture during administration is crucial. This medication should not be administered to patients with esophageal stricture or achalasia, those who cannot sit or stand upright for more than 30 minutes, patients with hypersensitivity to the ingredients, hypocalcemia patients, and those with lactose intolerance. While taking this drug, gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, esophagitis, or gastritis may occur, so it is advisable to inform healthcare professionals if these symptoms appear. Musculoskeletal pain, headaches, dizziness, and altered taste have also been reported as neurological and psychiatric adverse reactions, so caution is advised. In particular, since this medication aids in the absorption of calcium and vitamin D, taking supplements is recommended if calcium intake is insufficient. Older adults or chronic disease patients who are at high risk of vitamin D deficiency may need additional vitamin D supplementation. Women who are pregnant or nursing must consult a doctor regarding the use of this medication, and it is not to be used in children. In cases of overdose, hypocalcemia and gastrointestinal irritation symptoms may appear, so an immediate visit to a medical institution is required, and it is not appropriate to induce vomiting or attempt dialysis. There may be drug interactions when taking this medication, especially when taken with calcium supplements, antacids, aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so caution is necessary. Lastly, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container can negatively affect its quality.
