Precautions

This medication helps regulate the body's fluid balance. Particularly in older patients or those with impaired kidney function, symptoms of hyponatremia due to low sodium concentration in the body and water overload can occur, so it is important to limit water intake to a sufficient amount that satisfies thirst and not to drink too much. Patients who are allergic to this medication or have certain kidney diseases, heart dysfunction, are taking diuretics, or have a genetic issue with lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. Patients with hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney diseases, pregnant women, children, and the elderly should use this medication with extra caution, and those with diseases that can cause fluid and electrolyte imbalances or an increased risk of intracranial pressure should also be cautious. While taking this medication, side effects related to excessive fluid can occur, such as weight gain, headache, nausea, and seizures, so if symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary. Water intake should be restricted for a certain period before and after administration, and particularly for the elderly or patients at high risk for hyponatremia, regular monitoring of serum sodium levels is required. When taken with other medications, interactions may occur, so caution is needed when combined with tricyclic antidepressants, diuretics, steroids, and anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician before taking this medication, as it may affect the fetus or newborn. In the case of an overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, seizures, and loss of consciousness may occur, and in such cases, immediate medical attention should be sought.
