This medication helps facilitate the expulsion of mucus in diseases where expectoration is challenging, such as acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, laryngitis, sinusitis, and cystic fibrosis. Specifically, it is used to improve symptoms when excessive mucus secretion in the airway makes breathing uncomfortable. It effectively aids in these diseases to ease breathing and enhance the quality of life of patients.

How to take

Adult dose

For acute conditions, take 200 mg once, 3 times a day with a small amount of water before meals (for granules only). For chronic conditions, take 200 mg once, 2 times a day before meals (for syrup form).

Child dose

Acute conditions - Ages 6 to 14: Take 200 mg once, 2 times a day. - Ages 2 to 5: Take 100 mg once, 3 times a day. Chronic conditions - Ages 6 to 14: Take 100 mg once

Precautions

This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, which breaks down into phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, patients with phenylketonuria, a hereditary condition that requires dietary restriction of phenylalanine, should not take this medication. The daily limit for aspartame is restricted to less than 40 mg/kg, as recommended by WHO, allowing a maximum intake of up to 2.4 g per day for a 60 kg adult. Those who have allergic reactions to this medication or its components should avoid taking it. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers and children under the age of 2 should also not take this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only take this medication after consulting with a doctor, as its safety has not been fully established. Breastfeeding women should also be cautious as it is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk. If gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, heartburn, diarrhea, or hypersensitivity reactions such as hives, itching, rash, headache, tinnitus, or bronchospasm occur during treatment, discontinue use immediately and consult a specialist. Additionally, rare cases of increased heart rate, hypertension, and severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur, so caution is advised. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of certain oral antibiotics when taken together, so it is recommended to space doses at least 2 hours apart. Additionally, avoid mixing other medications into the solution of this medication. Store this medication out of reach of children and keep it in the original container to prevent misuse or quality degradation.
