This medication is used for individuals with vascular health issues. It helps improve symptoms of atherosclerotic diseases such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease. It also reduces the risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular anomalies in patients with acute coronary syndrome, especially those experiencing unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction. Patients who have undergone or are scheduled for coronary interventional procedures or coronary artery bypass surgery can also benefit from this medication. Additionally, it reduces the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have one or more vascular risk factors, and for whom vitamin K antagonists are not suitable. Overall, this medication is used to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic symptoms and complications, thereby improving health.

Precautions

This medication prevents platelets from aggregating, helping the blood to flow more freely. This drug must be activated in the liver by a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) to be effective, and individuals with genetically reduced enzyme function may find the effectiveness of the medication diminished and require special caution. During treatment, there may be an increased risk of bleeding, which means that bleeding may take longer to stop than usual. If bleeding occurs or worsens, or if it persists for a long time, consult a doctor immediately. It should not be administered to patients with bleeding tendencies, significant liver or kidney damage, nursing mothers, or patients with certain genetic disorders such as lactose intolerance. Patients who are about to undergo surgery or invasive procedures should stop taking this medication 5 to 7 days before the procedure, and caution is particularly important when taking it with other drugs that increase bleeding risk. This medication may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with other drugs that affect blood coagulation, especially aspirin, warfarin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), so consult a doctor. Rarely, this medication might cause a serious side effect of a rapid decrease in the number of white blood cells in the blood, so if there are symptoms of fever or infection, visit a hospital immediately. Additionally, if allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a physician. The impact on the fetus during pregnancy is unclear, but in emergency situations such as myocardial infarction or stroke, treatment should not be delayed, and it is recommended to stop medication before delivery to reduce the risk of bleeding. For nursing mothers, it is important to carefully decide whether to continue breastfeeding or discontinue the medication, as this drug may be excreted in breast milk. The safety and effectiveness in children have not been established, and caution is necessary in elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function, as the risk of bleeding may be higher, requiring dosage adjustments and careful monitoring. In the case of overdose, the risk of bleeding significantly increases, and since there is no specific antidote, treatment for bleeding may require platelet transfusions or similar interventions. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may affect its quality.
