Treatment of overactive bladder (such as urgency and frequent urination)
This medication is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder such as urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. It alleviates symptoms of frequent urination and sudden inability to hold urine due to overactive bladder, thus improving the quality of life. These symptoms can cause significant inconvenience in daily life, hence appropriate treatment is necessary. This drug controls excessive contractions of the bladder muscles, improving the ability to control urination. As a result, it helps patients achieve a more comfortable urination experience.
Adults: Administer tolterodine L-tartrate 4 mg orally once daily. Patients with renal impairment, hepatic impairment, or those taking ketoconazole or another potent CYP3A4 inhibitor: Administer 2 mg of this medicine once daily. If adverse reactions occur, the dose may be reduced from 4 mg to 2 mg once daily. This medicine may be taken with or without food. Swallow the dosage form whole; do not crush or split it.
This medication should not be used in patients with urinary retention or gastric retention symptoms. It should also not be administered to patients with uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, severe myasthenia gravis, severe ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon. Patients with obstruction of the bladder outlet, risk of urinary retention, controlled narrow-angle glaucoma, gastrointestinal obstructive diseases, or impaired renal or liver function should use it cautiously. Additionally, caution is required when used in combination with certain antibiotics, antifungals, or immunosuppressants, and for patients with autonomic neuropathy, hiatus hernia, or risk of reduced gastrointestinal motility. This drug can cause symptoms due to anti-muscarinic effects such as dry mouth, dyspepsia, and reduced tear production. Various adverse reactions have also been reported, including infections, allergic reactions, dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, constipation, abdominal pain, urinary difficulty, weight gain, fatigue, dry eyes, visual disturbances, skin dryness, and others. This medication may affect the QT interval related to heart rhythm, so caution should be exercised in patients with QT prolongation, those taking specific antiarrhythmic medications, and patients with electrolyte imbalances. Caution is also warranted while driving or operating machinery, as reaction times may be slowed, and a thorough evaluation for structural causes of bladder issues should be done before treatment. Taking this drug with other anti-muscarinic drugs can enhance effects, and there may be changes in drug concentration when combined with some metabolic enzyme inhibitors, hence caution is required. It should not be administered to pregnant women as safety has not been established, and women of childbearing potential should only use it after taking appropriate contraceptive measures. Nursing mothers should also avoid taking this medication. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so its use is not recommended. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as vision disturbances and urinary difficulties may occur, requiring immediate treatment; appropriate emergency measures such as gastric lavage and administration of activated charcoal should be taken. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and transferring it to another container is not recommended as it can affect quality.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture. Additionally, it is important to store it at room temperature below 25 degrees Celsius to maintain its effectiveness.
