This medication is used to improve several vascular-related symptoms, including ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease. It also helps reduce the risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with acute coronary syndrome. It plays a role in lowering the risks of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors and for whom vitamin K antagonists are difficult to administer. This medication supports vascular health and is effective in preventing thrombosis, making it useful in preventing the recurrence of cardiovascular diseases and improving overall vascular condition.

How to take

Adult dose

○ Adults 1. For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, administer clopidogrel 75 mg orally once daily. 2. For patients with acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction), start with a loading dose of 300 mg of this medicine once daily on the day treatment is initiated, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg orally once daily. Precautions

This medication prevents platelet aggregation in the blood, thereby preventing the formation of blood clots. The effectiveness of this medication may be reduced in individuals with decreased function of the enzyme CYP2C19, which metabolizes the drug in the liver. In such cases, it is advisable to change the treatment method or use another medication. Additionally, caution must be taken when taking medications that enhance the activity of the CYP2C19 enzyme, as this may increase the risk of bleeding due to an excessively strong effect of this drug. Patients with allergies to this medication or its components, patients with bleeding issues, those with severely impaired liver function, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. For patients at high risk of bleeding or in suspected cases of bleeding symptoms, a blood test should be conducted to check their condition. Particularly, when this medication is taken with anticoagulants such as warfarin, the risk of bleeding increases, so caution is needed. Patients with scheduled surgeries or trauma, or those with blood coagulation disorders should also use this medication carefully. If surgery is planned, it is safe to stop this medication 5-7 days before the surgery. This medication may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding, skin rashes, headaches, dizziness, dyspepsia, and diarrhea, and serious adverse reactions such as decreased blood cell counts may occur rarely, thus patients should consult a physician immediately if abnormal symptoms occur. During pregnancy, although the risk to the fetus is not confirmed, there is a risk of bleeding during delivery, thus caution in usage is needed. In nursing cases, the medication can be transmitted through breast milk, hence one must choose to either stop breastfeeding or discontinue the medication. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, and the elderly may require careful dosing or reduction due to increased risk of bleeding from decreased body function. In cases of overdose, bleeding time may increase and bleeding complications may occur, necessitating caution, and platelet transfusions may be required to stop the bleeding. When taking this medication, one should be careful not to combine it with other drugs that carry bleeding risks, particularly aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anticoagulants, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, as these combinations may increase the risk of bleeding. Patients should inform their doctor or dentist that they are taking this medication, and if bleeding does not stop or worsens, they should consult medical personnel immediately. Lastly, it is safe to keep this medication out of the reach of children and not transfer it to another container.
