Improvement of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms
This medication is used to slow the progression of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms and improve memory and cognitive function.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administered as 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For the first 4–6 weeks, the dosage should be maintained at 5 mg. After assessing the clinical response during this period, the dosage may be increased up to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg daily, care should be taken regarding gastrointestinal adverse reactions.
There is no experience using this medication in children.
This medicine should not be used by patients with allergies to certain ingredients or by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with genetic lactose intolerance or lactose enzyme deficiency should also be cautious. Patients with heart conditions or issues with heart rhythm should use this medicine carefully, as bradycardia or arrhythmia can occur. Those with a history of peptic ulcers or who are taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be cautious as gastrointestinal issues may arise. Patients with asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease may experience worsening symptoms due to bronchial constriction or increased mucus secretion. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should also be cautious, as symptoms may worsen with the use of this medication. Individuals with allergies to the color additives included in this medicine should use it carefully. Possible side effects include heart-related issues, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver function abnormalities, seizures, movement disorders, and respiratory difficulties; if any abnormal symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication may affect driving or operation of machinery, so caution is advised, especially during the initial dosing or when changing doses. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication, and if necessary, should consult a specialist before use. Safety for pediatric use has not been established, so it should not be used in children. In cases of overdose, severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension, and respiratory depression may occur, so dosing must be strictly adhered to and medical attention sought immediately in case of overdose. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
