Olmesartan Medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide are used together to effectively lower blood pressure when monotherapy is insufficient in patients with essential hypertension. The combination of these two medications helps improve blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications. Therefore, it is safely and effectively used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

Take one tablet of this medication once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage should be adjusted every 2 to 4 weeks based on the patient's blood pressure response. Elderly patients should start at the lowest dose, adjusting carefully according to renal function, cardiac function, chronic conditions, and concomitant medications. It is administered to patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance >30 mL/min), while it should not be given to patients with severe renal impairment.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus or newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with an allergy to any components of this medication or those with certain kidney or liver diseases, as well as pregnant or nursing women, should not take this medication. Patients with decreased blood volume or low salt levels should closely observe their condition before starting this medication and take immediate action if symptoms of low blood pressure occur. Patients with impaired kidney function or kidney transplant recipients should frequently check kidney function and electrolyte status via blood tests while taking this medication. Patients with liver disease or heart valve disease also need to exercise caution when using this medication. This medication may increase the risk of skin cancer, so one should avoid sun exposure and consult a physician immediately if there are any skin changes. Possible side effects include dizziness, headache, indigestion, and cough; severe side effects should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Be cautious of interactions when taken with other antihypertensive medications, potassium supplements, diuretics, etc., and especially avoid taking it together with lithium or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Patients with diabetes may be affected in terms of blood sugar control; thus, blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently. Elderly patients and children may require dose adjustments and close supervision, as safety in pediatric patients has not been established. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as low blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration may occur, so immediate medical attention is necessary. If breastfeeding, this medication may be passed to breast milk and could cause adverse reactions in the baby; therefore, either breastfeeding or the medication should be discontinued. While taking this medication, regular blood tests and checks of physical condition should be performed, and immediate consultation with a physician is required if any abnormal symptoms occur.
