Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used to treat hypertension and is particularly effective in preventing and treating kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes accompanying hypertension. By controlling hypertension, it prevents damage to blood vessels and organs and improves the decline in kidney function caused by diabetes. Therefore, it is a medication that aids in managing hypertension and related kidney complications.
Hypertensive adults: Recommended oral administration of Losartan Potassium as 50 mg once daily. If therapeutic effect is insufficient, it may be divided into two doses per day or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. In patients with hypertension and kidney disease due to type 2 diabetes: Usually 50 mg once daily, may be increased to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure. If there is concern about excessive hypotension, an initial dose of 25 mg is recommended. Elderly patients (over 75 years)
Children and adolescents aged 6 years and older: (1) Weight 20 kg to less than 50 kg: 25 mg once daily, may be increased to a maximum of 50 mg once daily. (2) Weight 50 kg or more: 1 day 1
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take it. Patients with allergy reactions to this medication or those with severely impaired liver function, patients with certain genetic disorders, and those with a history of angioedema should avoid this medication. Elderly patients, patients with impaired kidney function, and patients with high potassium levels in the blood need special caution when using this medication and should take it under the careful guidance of a physician. Symptoms such as dizziness or low blood pressure may occur during the use of this medication, so caution should be exercised when engaging in dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery. Occasional side effects such as skin rash, headache, muscle pain, and cough may occur, and rarely serious allergic reactions or kidney function disorders may happen, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are currently taking any other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist and consult them. Particularly, caution is needed when taken together with potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications, as this may dangerously elevate blood potassium levels. It is important to regularly monitor blood pressure and conduct blood tests to check kidney function and electrolyte status during treatment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this medication, and if it must be taken, caution should be exercised after consulting with a doctor. This medication is not recommended for children, especially those under 6 years of age or for pediatric patients with severely impaired kidney function.
