Relief of oral and pharyngeal mucosal irritation and suppression of nausea
This medication is used in otolaryngology as a local anesthetic when the oral and pharyngeal mucosa is irritated or inflamed. It is also used in dentistry to suppress nausea that may occur during X-ray imaging or dental impressions.
Adult: The recommended maximum single dose for healthy adults should not exceed 4.5 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride per kg of body weight, and the total dosage should not exceed 300 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride (15 mL of this drug) in any case. For symptomatic treatment of irritation and inflammation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa, 300 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride (15 mL of this drug) is administered. When used orally, this drug should be held in the mouth and then spat out.
This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesthetics. It is advisable to avoid administering this medication to pregnant women and children due to the sweetener saccharin included in this product. Caution should be exercised when used in patients with wounds or mucosal damage at the application site. This medication contains propylene glycol, so patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to this ingredient should take precautions. During the use of this drug, shock symptoms may occur, and the patient's condition should be closely monitored. If symptoms such as blood pressure drop, facial pallor, abnormal pulse, and respiratory depression occur, use should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. It could affect the central nervous system, so if symptoms such as tremors or convulsions occur, usage should be stopped immediately, and professional treatment should be obtained. Additionally, symptoms such as drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, headache, nervousness, confusion, tinnitus, sensory abnormalities, unconsciousness, and respiratory issues may occur, so careful observation is necessary. It may also affect the heart and vascular system, leading to decreased heart rate, hypotension, and in severe cases, cardiac arrest. Therefore, caution is required. Skin reactions such as rashes, swelling, hives, and allergic responses may appear, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. When using this medication, it is important to have emergency treatment available in case of acute shock or toxicity. To minimize side effects, it is advisable to thoroughly check the patient's general condition and use the minimal effective dose required. When used in the oral cavity or pharynx, there may be a risk of aspiration due to difficulty swallowing; therefore, it is safe to refrain from food intake for 60 minutes after use. Care should be taken while eating, as the tongue or oral mucosa may be numb and could lead to oral injury. The safety of this drug has not been established in pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, so it should only be used when the therapeutic benefit outweighs the risk. Nursing mothers should take caution as it is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. It is important to shake well before use to ensure that the contents are well mixed. The sweetener saccharin in this drug has been reported to have carcinogenic potential in animal studies, so it is advisable to avoid long-term or excessive use.
