This drug is used to improve vascular atherosclerosis symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. Additionally, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular-related death, myocardial infarction, and stroke, and improves symptoms in adult patients who have experienced acute coronary syndrome and are undergoing or are scheduled for drug therapy, coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass surgery. Moreover, for adult patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors and where vitamin K antagonists are not suitable and the risk of bleeding is low, this drug reduces the risk of atherothrombotic and thromboembolic events, including stroke. In summary, this medication is effective in improving and preventing atherosclerosis and thrombotic-related problems in various cardiovascular diseases and thrombotic risk states.

Precautions

This drug helps prevent platelets in the blood from clumping together, thereby reducing the formation of blood clots. While taking this medication, the risk of bleeding may increase, so it might take longer for bleeding to stop. If symptoms such as bleeding, bruising, nosebleeds, or gum bleeding occur, notify a doctor immediately. Individuals with a genetic deficiency in a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may experience reduced effectiveness from this medication and may have an increased risk of cardiovascular issues, thus should consult a physician. Additionally, taking this medication with certain drugs may raise the risk of bleeding, so it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications being taken. Patients with existing bleeding, severe liver damage, breastfeeding women, and those with lactose intolerance should not take this medication. If surgery or invasive procedures are planned, this medication should be discontinued 5 to 7 days prior and follow the doctor’s instructions. This drug can rarely cause thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), a serious blood disorder characterized by a rapid decrease in platelets. If sudden bleeding, fever, or neurological symptoms occur, visit a hospital immediately. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, consultation with a doctor is essential before taking this medication, especially since the risk of bleeding may increase during delivery. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function may have a higher risk of bleeding, thus dosage adjustments and monitoring of condition according to the doctor's direction are necessary. Overdose may significantly increase the risk of bleeding, therefore adhering to the prescribed dosage and administration is crucial. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and avoid transferring it to another container.
