Summary

Main use
Relief of symptoms associated with anxiety (including anxiety accompanied by depression), panic disorder, and psychosomatic disorders
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
To obtain the greatest benefit, determine the dose individually for each patient. The usual daily doses listed below are suitable for most patients, although higher doses may be required. In such cases, increase the dose slowly to avoid adverse effects. The risk of dependence may increase with the dose and duration of treatment. Therefore, administer the lowest possible effective dose for the shortest possible period and frequently reassess the need for continued treatment. ○ Adults 1. The initial dosage is 0.25-0.5㎎ of alprazolam per dose, 3 times daily, with a maximum dose of 4㎎ per day. For elderly patients, patients with hepatic impairment, and debilitated patients, the initial dosage is 0.25㎎ per dose, 2-3 times daily. Reduce the dose if adverse effects occur at the initial dosage. 2. Psychosomatic disorders Administer 1.2㎎ of this medication per day orally in 3 divided doses. If increasing the dose, increase it slowly up to a maximum of 2.4㎎ per day, administered orally in 3-4 divided doses. For elderly patients, the initial dosage is 0.4㎎ per dose, 1-2 times daily, with a maximum dose of 1.2㎎ per day. 3. Panic disorder The initial dose is 0.5㎎ of this medication. Depending on the patient's response to treatment, increase the dose by no more than 1㎎ at intervals of 3-4 days to an average daily dose of 5-6㎎, divided into 3-4 doses. When discontinuing treatment, reduce the dose by no more than 0.5㎎, usually at intervals of 3 days; an even lower dose reduction may be required.

Precautions

This medication contains alprazolam and is mainly used for the treatment of anxiety or panic disorders. Taking this medication with narcotics can cause severe sedation, respiratory depression, or even lead to coma or death, so it should only be taken at the minimum effective dose for a short period when absolutely necessary. Alprazolam can lead to misuse and dependence, so patients taking it need close monitoring by their physician, and to prevent misuse, the medication should be stored safely and any leftovers should be disposed of properly. This medication should not be administered to certain patients, such as those allergic to this drug or similar drugs, those with acute angle-closure glaucoma, severe myasthenia gravis, severe respiratory failure, severe liver dysfunction, certain mental disorders, or pregnant women in late pregnancy. Additionally, caution is needed when used by patients with heart, liver, or kidney dysfunction, the elderly, or those with weakened respiratory function, especially if they have allergies to specific pigments. This medication can cause drowsiness, decreased concentration, and reduced reflex motor skills, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. Patients on long-term use should have regular blood tests and liver function tests, and should reduce the dosage gradually under a doctor's guidance to avoid withdrawal symptoms or seizures when discontinuing usage. This medication must be used with caution when taken with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol, as it can significantly enhance sedation and pose risks, hence co-administration should be avoided or done very carefully. During pregnancy, especially in the late stage, it's best to avoid this medication as it can affect the fetus or newborn, and if breastfeeding, it can be transmitted through breast milk, so it should be avoided if possible or breastfeeding should be stopped. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years of age, and the elderly should start with a low dose due to a higher risk of side effects. In case of overdose, severe drowsiness, movement disorders, coma, and respiratory depression can occur, requiring immediate emergency care, and the doctor should consider the possibility that the patient has taken other medications. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original packaging to prevent quality degradation or misuse.
