This medication is used for the treatment of insomnia in adults, particularly to improve sleep in the short term. It helps when difficulty falling asleep or maintaining sleep occurs due to insomnia. It normalizes sleep patterns, helps achieve restful sleep, and improves overall sleep quality. Short-term use is recommended, and it is used to quickly alleviate symptoms for a comfortable night.
Because this medicine has a rapid onset of action, take it orally immediately before bedtime. The recommended daily dose for adults is 10mg. Use the lowest effective dose, and do not exceed the recommended dose of 10mg. For elderly or debilitated patients, the recommended dose is 5mg because they may be sensitive to the effects of this medicine; do not exceed 10mg per day. Since hepatic impairment may reduce the metabolism and excretion of this medicine, start with a dose of 5mg, with special care as in elderly patients. For adults under 65 years of age, the dose may be increased to 10mg if adherence is good but the clinical response is inadequate. This medicine may impair driving or other activities that require full alertness the following day. Take a single dose immediately before bedtime, allowing at least 7-8 hours between taking the medicine and getting up. The duration of treatment generally ranges from several days to 2 weeks, and up to a maximum of 4 weeks. Reduce the dose gradually when clinically appropriate. As with other hypnotics, long-term use is not recommended. Treatment should be as short as possible and should not exceed 4 weeks. The risk of abuse and dependence increases with the duration of treatment; do not exceed the maximum treatment period without reassessing the patient's condition.
Do not administer this medicine to children.
This medication may cause behaviors such as sleepwalking or driving while asleep, which can result in serious injury to oneself or others. If symptoms do not improve after 7-10 days of use, it is important to check for other underlying causes, as sleep disturbances may not be simply a problem. It is especially important for elderly patients to start at the minimum dose to reduce side effects. Be cautious as this medication may induce aggressive or abnormal behaviors such as hallucinations or anxiety. Memory loss or mental issues may occur suddenly, and there is an increased risk of suicide in patients with depression. Any new unusual behavior or symptoms require immediate evaluation by a physician. Abruptly stopping the medication may result in withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, headaches, and confusion, so it should be tapered off slowly. This medication should be taken just before sleep, and activities such as driving or operating machinery should be avoided afterward. Combining this medication with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants can exacerbate side effects and should be avoided. Caution is required when combined with opioid analgesics due to the risk of respiratory depression or coma. Rarely, anaphylactic reactions or angioedema may occur, and if these symptoms occur, usage should be discontinued immediately. It should not be used in patients with severe liver disease, and for those with impaired liver function, the dose should be reduced and closely monitored. This medication is not to be administered to children under 18, patients with obstructive sleep apnea, myasthenia gravis, or psychiatric disorders. Elderly or frail patients should start with a low dose and be carefully monitored, and caution is needed for patients with reduced respiratory function. While taking this medication, it is important to check for other disorders causing insomnia, and long-term use carries a risk of dependence, so it should be approached cautiously. Drowsiness or dizziness may occur after taking it, so precautions should be taken to avoid falls or accidents. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a doctor before use, and it is advisable not to use while breastfeeding.
