Summary

Main use
Relief of Parkinson's disease symptoms (tremor, rigidity, etc.) and antipsychotic-induced extrapyramidal symptoms
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
1. Parkinson's disease The optimal dose varies by patient; determine the dosage and administration accordingly. Young adult patients and patients with postencephalitic Parkinson's disease may require higher doses than elderly patients and patients with arteriosclerotic Parkinson's disease. 1) Patients not receiving other drug therapy: Initially, administer procyclidine hydrochloride 2.5 mg orally 3 times daily after meals. If the patient tolerates it well, gradually increase the dose to 5 mg per dose 3 times daily, or administer 5 mg only with the last dose. In some cases, a lower dose may provide better therapeutic effects. For patients who sometimes have difficulty adhering to bedtime dosing, it is preferable to omit the bedtime dose and divide the daily dose evenly among daytime doses. To minimize adverse reactions, take this drug during or after meals. 2) Switching from another drug therapy to procyclidine hydrochloride therapy For patients who have been continuously receiving another drug, gradually switch all or part of the other medication to this drug at 2.5 mg per dose 3 times daily. Gradually increase the dose of this drug to the required amount while correspondingly reducing the dose of the other drug or discontinuing it, until the switch is complete. 2. Extrapyramidal symptoms caused by antipsychotics (phenothiazines, reserpine, etc.) When treating extrapyramidal symptoms caused by antipsychotics during treatment of patients with psychiatric disorders, adjust the dose according to the severity of adverse reactions associated with the antipsychotic. In general, the higher the antipsychotic dose, the more severe symptoms such as rigidity and tremor become. Therefore, adjust the dose to meet each patient's needs and minimize symptoms as much as possible. To establish the daily dose of this drug, start with 2.5 mg per dose 3 times daily and increase by up to an additional 2.5 mg daily until symptoms are relieved. In most cases, a daily dose of 10~20 mg of this drug produces an excellent effect.
