Bacterial infections (respiratory, genitourinary, skin, etc.); adjunctive treatment of leprosy
This medication is an antibiotic effective against various bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, used for the treatment of various infections from complicated skin and soft tissue infections to acute and chronic otitis media, sinusitis, pneumonia, and acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is also effective for urinary tract infections, reproductive infections, bacterial enteritis, and infections around the uterus and eyes. However, due to the significant risk of adverse reactions associated with fluoroquinolones, it should be used cautiously when no alternative treatment is available. This medication is used to treat various bacterial infections.
○ Usual adult dose: Take 300~600 mg of ofloxacin daily in 2~3 divided doses. ○ For Hansen's disease, take 400~600 mg of this drug daily in 2~3 divided doses. In principle, use in combination with other anti-Hansen's disease drugs. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This medication may cause serious tendon problems, such as tendinitis and tendon rupture; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if these symptoms occur. Peripheral neuropathy or central nervous system symptoms may also appear, so caution is advised if sensory abnormalities or neurological symptoms occur. Patients with myasthenia gravis should not use this medication as it may worsen symptoms. While this medication is used for the treatment of specific bacterial infections, its use should be limited to cases where no alternative treatment is available. Particularly careful consideration is needed for the elderly, patients with poor renal function, and those who are using it alongside corticosteroids, as the risk of tendon rupture is increased. This medication may increase the risk of seizures; therefore, patients with a history of epilepsy or convulsions should use it cautiously. It is safest not to administer it to pregnant or nursing women, as well as to growing children and adolescents. During treatment, care should be taken to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light, and if a rash or phototoxic reaction occurs, usage should be discontinued. This medication can cause nervous system side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is required when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Regular blood tests, liver function tests, and kidney function tests are important to detect adverse reactions early. There are many drug interactions with this medication, so particularly discuss with healthcare personnel when taking anticoagulants, diabetes medications, or antacids. Overdosage may lead to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, facial swelling, so if suspected, seek medical attention immediately. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
