Precautions

This drug is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by binding to specific proteins and disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It should not be used in patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock from this drug or other cephalosporins. Patients with allergies to penicillin antibiotics or a tendency to develop allergic symptoms such as bronchial asthma, skin rash, or hives should use this drug with caution. Patients with severe renal impairment, those who have difficulty swallowing, elderly patients, and those in poor overall health should be carefully monitored for vitamin K deficiency symptoms when administered. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases, particularly a history of colitis, should also be cautious when using this drug. Rarely, severe shock or hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur, so immediate discontinuation and appropriate treatment are required if symptoms appear. Serious reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis may occur, so skin condition should be closely monitored. Blood tests may show abnormalities such as leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia, so regular check-ups are necessary and administration should be stopped if abnormalities are found. Liver dysfunction or worsening renal function may rarely occur, thus liver and kidney status should be periodically checked. Severe colitis symptoms like membranous colitis may appear, so if there is severe abdominal pain or diarrhea, discontinue use immediately. Rare respiratory symptoms or interstitial pneumonia may also occur, so if difficulty breathing or severe coughing develops, consult healthcare professionals. Central nervous system side effects such as anxiety, agitation, dizziness, and hallucinations may rarely appear. Oral infections such as stomatitis or candidiasis may occur infrequently. Vitamin K deficiency leading to bleeding tendencies or signs of vitamin B deficiency may rarely manifest, necessitating caution. To prevent the occurrence of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to use this drug only for an appropriate duration based on susceptibility testing. Like other antibiotics, infections caused by resistant strains may occur, so appropriate treatment should be initiated if symptoms change. Caution is needed for potential interactions with other medications, especially when used in conjunction with probenecid, nephrotoxic drugs, diuretics, anticoagulants, or oral contraceptives. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this drug only when the benefits outweigh the risks, and breastfeeding women should use it with caution. Safety in newborns less than one month old has not been established, so use should be avoided. Elderly patients may experience side effects more easily due to decreased physiological function, so dosage adjustments and monitoring are necessary. It is important to inform healthcare providers of this drug's influence on test results during examinations.
