Treatment of otitis media, respiratory infections (pneumonia, pharyngitis), and urinary tract infections (pyelonephritis, cystitis)
This medication is effective against various bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus pyogenes. It is primarily used for respiratory infections such as otitis media, pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis. It is also effective for urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis, cystitis, and gonococcal urethritis. This medication is used to treat various skin infections such as abscesses, boils, folliculitis, soft tissue infections, infectious nodules, subcutaneous abscesses, finger infections, and wound infections. It helps in treating many infectious diseases and improves the symptoms of patients.
For cefaclor hydrate, take 250 mg (potency) once every 8 hours orally. In cases of severe infections (such as pneumonia) and infections with low susceptibility, the dosage can be doubled. For acute gonococcal urethritis, administer this medication 3g combined with 1g of Probenecid in a single dose.
Administer 20 mg (potency) per kg of body weight divided every 8 hours. In cases of severe infections, otitis media, and infections with low susceptibility, a dosage of 40 mg (potency) per kg of body weight may be given, with a maximum dosage of
This medication should not be used in patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock due to this medication or cephalosporin antibiotics in the past. It should be administered cautiously to patients with allergies to penicillin antibiotics or those with a history of bronchial asthma, rashes, urticaria, or frequent allergic symptoms. Patients with severely impaired renal function, those unable to take medications orally, elderly patients, and those in poor general condition should be closely monitored for vitamin K deficiency symptoms. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases, especially a history of colitis, need to be careful. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions such as shock and anaphylaxis, so symptoms should be closely monitored during administration, and if any unusual symptoms occur, treatment should be stopped immediately, and proper care should be received. Severe rashes or significant skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so the condition of the skin should be carefully observed. Blood tests may reveal abnormalities such as leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia, and regular check-ups are necessary. Hepatic dysfunction or renal impairment can also occur rarely, necessitating periodic assessment of liver and kidney condition. Gastrointestinal side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and severe colitis can develop, requiring immediate consultation with healthcare providers upon symptom onset. Interstitial pneumonia or eosinophilic lung infiltrates have been reported rarely in the respiratory system; thus, it is crucial to report any symptoms like breathing difficulties or cough immediately. Central nervous system side effects can include restlessness, anxiety, dizziness, hallucinations, and drowsiness, requiring caution. Oral infections such as stomatitis or candidiasis can occur rarely. This medication can induce bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency, so attention should be given to bleeding symptoms, and symptoms of vitamin B deficiencies may also appear. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, this medication should only be used for the appropriate duration as determined by susceptibility testing, and interactions with other antibiotics should be considered. In particular, using it with Probenecid can increase the blood concentration of this medication, and co-administration with nephrotoxic drugs may worsen renal damage, so it should be used carefully. There is an increased risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulants, necessitating regular checks of blood coagulation status. When used with oral contraceptives, the contraceptive effect may be reduced, so it is advisable to use alternative contraceptive methods. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should exercise caution in using this medication after discussion with their healthcare provider, and breastfeeding mothers should also be mindful as a small amount of the drug can pass into breast milk. The use of this medication should be avoided in infants under one month of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may experience more adverse reactions due to decreased physical function, so their dosage and frequency of administration should be adjusted, and their condition should be closely monitored. Finally, during the period of taking this medication, false-positive results may appear in urine tests, so patients should inform healthcare providers during examinations.
